Grown Folks Book Club started October 20, 2007 at the Barnes and Noble Book Club on north 29th Street in Wichita, KS. Started by several people only three showed up to the first meeting. GFBC came about due to several requests for me (Paris) to start another book club. I LOVE to read and I come from a family of strong readers, to be in a position to get together with other people like me and discuss dynamic works by Black authors is pleasing to my soul.
The goal here is to provide a platform and a meeting time and place for us to get together and live vicariously through these characters. GFBC is open to men, women, husbands, and wives that are at least 18 years of age. Most of the time we will laugh, sometimes we will cry but we will always embrace, respect, and lift each other up.
A few times a year we will collaborate with another book club in the Kansas City area; KC Girlfriends Book Club. Please check out their website www.kcgirlfriendsbookclub.com and their Myspace page www.myspace.com/kcgirlfriendsbookclub .
